Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) is the economic capital of Vietnam. It is situated by the side of the Saigon River towards the northern part of the Mekong River delta.
Many centuries ago, Saigon was already a busy commercial center. Merchants from China, Japan and many European countries would sail upstream the Saigon River to reach the islet of Pho, a trading center.
Saigon was captured by the French in 1859 and named the capital of Cochinchina a few years later. The city served as the capital of the Republic of Vietnam from1956 until 1975. After the reunification of the country, the 6th National Assembly in its meeting of the 2nd of July, 1976, has officially rebaptized Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City. The history of the city relates closely with the struggle for the independence and freedom of Vietnam.
Nowadays, Saigon is the big tourism center in Vietnam, drawing a large number of visitors to Vietnam. Saigon has various attractions such as: Cu Chi tunnels, Dragon House Wharf, Saigon Water Park, Suoi Tien…After over 300 years of development, Saigon presents many ancient architectural constructions, famous relics and renowned sights.
