There are number of nationalities that are not required to get a visa to enter Vietnam as followed:
- - All ASEAN citizens from Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Lao and Indonesia can enter Vietnam without a visa if their stay is not more than 30 days. Citizens of Philipines do not need visa for 21 days and 15 days for passport holders from Brunei. Travellers from Cambodia, Myanmar and Timor-Leste need to apply for visa to Vietnam.
- - Korean, Japanese as well as the Scandinavians (Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Finland) do not need visa if their stay is not more than 15 days.
- - Russian passport holders are no longer required to get visa when trvelling to Vietnam from this year with the condition that return tickets are pre-arranged.
- - All other passort holders are required to apply for visa issued by consulates or embassies prior to departure or approved letter for getting visa on arrival at Vietnam international airports.
- Other exceptions:
- - French diplomatic or officilal passport holders are not required to get visa if the stay is less than 90 days and can have several entries within 6 months.
- - All Chilean diplomatic and official passport can travel to Vietnam with no visa requirements for the maximum stay of 60 days and the same rule applied for APEC Business Travel Card (ABTC) Holders from Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) member economies
- - Foreigners and Vietnamese nationals holding foreign passports entering Vietnam through an international border gate to travel to Phu Quoc Island and stay there for less than 15 days will also be exempted from Vietnam visa application. Passports must be valid for at least 45 days. After arriving on Phu Quoc Island, the Vietnamese immigration department will be responsible for issuing visas on site if visitors want to travel other localities or stay in the island for more than 15 days.
- - No visa required for Vietnamese overseas for less than 90 days staying if they are holding Vietnam visa exemption certificate.
